The Post list Widget is based on a system saved search and displays the latest posts matching the saved search filter on the Dashboard.
Interactions with other dashboard widgets
The Post list widget interacts with other dashboard widgets and is a prerequisite for the following widgets to work:
- All the Chart widgets allowing users to filter posts in the post list by clicking the chart.
- The Personal Saved Search widget allowing users to filter posts in the post list based on the personal saved search.
- The Saved Search widget allowing users to filter posts in the post list based on the saved search.
- The Word Cloud widget allowing users to filter the post list widget by selecting one or several keywords inside the Word Cloud.
Just so you know, these widgets will not work if your Dashboard does not have a Post list Widget.
When clicking a widget connected to the post list widget, for example, a pie chart, the post list content will interact with the chart and show a filtered post list matching the selected filter. All matching filters are shown as black buttons above the Post list.
Add the Post list widget:
When creating a new dashboard widget, you can create a shared widget that can be used on several dashboards or a widget dedicated to a specific dashboard.
Adding a shared widget
Navigate to the Dashboard overview page.
Click on the Go to Widgets tab and then New Widget.
Click the Post tab in the top menu and then the Add button on the Post list widget card.
Adding a widget only available for a specific Dashboard
Click the More icon (three dots) on a Dashboard card and select Manage widgets.
Click the Add Widget button at the top right of the Dashboard page and select an area to position your widget (top, right, or left).
Click the Post tab in the top menu and click the Add button on the Post list widget card.
Configuring the widget
Fill in the New Post List widget form to configure the widget.
- Name: Type the name of the widget. The name will be the title of the post list widget on the Dashboard. Choose a name that clearly explains the widget, for example, "Post list", "Latest News", or “Recommended Reading”.
- Saved search: Select a saved search from the drop-down. The widget will display the latest posts matching the selected saved search. Note that the selected saved search must be a System Saved Search. You cannot use Personal and Shared Saved Searches when creating dashboard widgets.
- Size: You can limit the number of posts displayed to a fixed number. Use the up and down arrows to set the number of posts you want to show in the post list widget. If there are more posts than the specified number, a button will appear, allowing the user to read more posts by linking to the Search page with the saved search persisted.
- Expanded: Select how you wish to display the posts in the post list widget. Check the "Expanded" box if you want the posts to appear as "Expanded". Uncheck if you want to display a slim post-list view. "Slim" posts only display the title, source, and date but can be expanded to display more information. "Expanded" posts are displayed with all data, including title, preamble, image, source, date, and any taxonomy tags, attached files, and comments.
- Enable Free Text Search: Check the box to allow users to perform free text searches within the post list widget. A search bar is displayed above the dashboard post-list when activated.
- Enable Search Filters: Check the box to allow users to access Filter search within the post list widget. A filter button is displayed above the dashboard post-list when activated. The filter menu appears to the right of the postlist widget when a user clicks the button.
- Press Save. The widget is now available to review on the Dashboard.
Using the Post List widget
The Post list Widget is based on a system-saved search and displays the latest posts matching the saved search. The post list widget interacts with other widgets on the dashboard and will filter the post list content when you click on other widgets.
When enabled, you can use the search bar and the filter search above the post list to filter and search for posts in the post list widget.
Click the filter search icon next to the magnifying glass, and the search filter will appear to the right of the page. Use the filter facets to make searches in the post list widget.
Click the calendar icon to search posts within a specific timeframe.
Use the sort icon to sort the order of the posts by newest, oldest, month, week, or day.
Use the view icon to display the posts in the post list with only headlines or with more details.
Click the source link or the post headline to read more.
You can comment, share, and translate posts in the post list widget by using the icons at the bottom of the post.
Editing posts require specific user rights. If you can see an edit icon (pencil) at the bottom of the post, it means you have the right to edit it.
In the Infodesk application, you can also drag and drop posts from the post list widget to Workspaces or other drop zones in the navigation bar.
User Access:
Only Superusers with Owner and Writer permission to a Dashboard can change and add new Dashboard Widgets.
