General Principles
When adding Feeds to Inboxes in Wide Narrow yourself, you'll need to make sure you have the legal right to use the source. Depending on what types of sources you use, you may have to consider copyright and fair use laws as well as distribution rights.
For paid content, you need to make sure that you have a subscription or license with the right to use and distribute the content to others.
For other information, we recommend using public domain content not protected by intellectual property laws such as copyright, trademark, or patent laws.
The most common public domain sources are:
- Internet forums and social networking sites
- Press releases
- Academic journals and publications
- Government and authority publications
- Parliamentary reports
- Court and tribunal judgments
- Official reports published by regulatory bodies, international organizations, or civil society organizations
- Public TV or radio programs
- Archived material available in public archives
Search engines, like Google, allow you to filter your search results to only show public domain works. When conducting an advanced search, you can choose which usage rights you want Google to search for.
Allow access to the full content
When the content from your added feeds is displayed as posts in your Inbox and Search, the default setting is that superusers can see the full content while end-users only see the title and a short abstract. However, if you are sure that the source of your feed allows the content to be displayed and distributed, you can change the setting, allowing end-users to see the full content in the posts from your feed.
Do this to give end-users the right to see the full content you have the right to share:
Change full content access when adding a new feed:
- Go to InfoLab (from the main menu or your Inbox)
- Click New feed and select feed (RSS or Web scraper). Fill in the feed form and then Save.
- In the Feed list: Click on the new feed.
- On the feed Search page: Click the Configure RSS feed tab.
- On the Configure RSS feed page: Tick the box Save content and then Save.
Change full content access to an existing feed:
- Go to InfoLab (from the main menu or your Inbox)
- In the Feed list: Click on the feed you want to allow full content from.
- On the feed Search page: Click the Configure RSS feed tab.
- On the Configure RSS feed page: Tick the box Save content and then Save.
